You catch yourself in the mirror and think I look so tired — the skin around your eyes and jaw softer and more crepey than it was, tiredness that a good night's sleep (remember those?) no longer fixes. If you want to firm that up but the idea of a six-week peel from prescription tretinoin is a hard no with a baby around, this is the gentler way in. Retinal (retinaldehyde) sits one rung above retinol on the vitamin A ladder — one less conversion step to go active, so it works faster, without the surface-stripping intensity of a prescription retinoid.
Celimax's "Vita A Retinal Shot" is a booster you ease in slowly. 15ml of concentrated retinal that adds to the PM routine you already have rather than replacing it. Two drops mixed into your moisturiser, starting a couple of nights a week and building up as your skin tells you it's ready.
Firmer-feeling skin in about 4 weeks, fine lines visibly softer by 8–12. Real retinal, real results, without the derm-brand markup. (One rule: not while pregnant or breastfeeding — see the FAQ.)

The Alina Promise
Tried retinol that did nothing? Tried tretinoin that wrecked your face? Try this for 60 days. If your skin isn't firmer, email me. Refund or swap.
Retinoids take 6–8 weeks to show. That's why my promise window on this one is 60 days, not 30. Be patient with the routine. If you've done that and you're not seeing changes, I'd rather refund you than have you give up on the whole category.
Email hello@alinabeauty.com.au — I personally reply within 24 hours.

"I'd been on plain retinol for years and my skin had stalled — the same fine lines, the same softness around my jaw. Three months on this and my smile lines genuinely softened. My mother-in-law asked again. This time the answer wasn't 'nothing.' It was this bottle, three nights a week."

Benefits
One step closer to active than retinol
Retinol needs two enzyme conversions inside your skin to become retinoic acid (the active form). Retinal needs only one. Less work for your skin, faster action, more reliable results — especially for skin that's been on retinol for years without noticeable change.
Without the tretinoin face-peel
Prescription tretinoin is direct active retinoic acid — effective, but harsh enough to peel most people for the first 6 weeks. Retinal sits below that intensity. You get real firming and texture improvement without the regret-week.
Booster format — add to what you already use
Don't restructure your routine. Two drops mixed into your night moisturiser, or layered on top. That's it. No new step. No extra time. It works inside the routine you've already settled.
Encapsulated to slow the release
Celimax uses an encapsulation system that releases the retinal gradually over the night — less surface irritation, more time the active spends actually working. The "morning after the first night" panic isn't a feature of this formula.
A fraction of the derm-brand price
Medik8 Crystal Retinal: $120 for 30ml. Avène RetrinAL: $90. This one delivers the same vitamin A form at a Korean K-beauty price point — without the marketing budget priced into the bottle.
What's in this bottle
The active
Retinal (Retinaldehyde)
A direct precursor to retinoic acid — the most potent form of vitamin A your skin can use. Retinal needs one enzyme conversion to become active; retinol needs two; tretinoin is already active. Position-wise, retinal is the strongest over-the-counter retinoid you can buy without a prescription.
In studies, retinal has been shown to stimulate collagen production, normalise skin cell turnover, and reduce visible fine lines — with significantly less irritation than tretinoin at equivalent results.
Note: Like all retinoids, retinal should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. See FAQ for safe layering with other actives.
Where this sits in the vitamin A family
Stronger than retinol. Gentler than prescription. A quarter of the Western-brand price.
The protocol — start slow, build up
Retinal is potent. Respect the protocol and your skin will respond. Push too hard, too fast and it'll punish you.
Weeks 1–2
2 drops, 2 nights/week
Apply to clean dry skin after cleanser and toner. Wait 20 minutes, then moisturiser. Skip the active on the other nights.
Weeks 3–6
3–4 nights/week
Once skin tolerates 2 nights/week without dryness or sensitivity, increase to 3, then 4. Listen to your skin — never push past tolerance.
Daily AM
SPF 30+ — non-negotiable
Retinal makes skin sun-sensitive. Without daily SPF you're undoing the work and creating new pigmentation. This isn't optional.
Questions answered
I've never used a retinoid — should I start here?
If your skin is generally healthy and not sensitive, you can — but start very slowly (1 night a week for 2 weeks) and build. If you're at all reactive, start with a plain 0.3% retinol for 3–6 months first, then graduate to this. Email me if you're not sure which is right.
How is retinal different from retinol?
Both end up as the same active (retinoic acid) inside your skin. Retinol needs two enzyme conversions to get there; retinal needs one. That makes retinal faster-acting and more efficient at the same applied dose. Studies suggest retinal delivers similar results to higher-percentage retinols, often with less irritation.
Is this safe during pregnancy?
No. All retinoids — including retinal — should be stopped during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Topical retinoids are not considered safe in either window. If you're trying to conceive, pregnant, or breastfeeding, pause this product and email me for a pregnancy-safe alternative. This is one of the few hard "no" rules in skincare.
Can I use it with vitamin C, AHA, or BHA?
Yes — but not in the same minute. Use vitamin C in your AM routine and this in your PM. Use AHA/BHA on alternate PM nights (this Monday, AHA Tuesday, this Wednesday, etc.). Stacking them the same night can cause flushing and over-exfoliation. If your skin is on the sensitive side, just simplify to retinal + moisturiser at night for the first 6 weeks.
Will my skin purge in the first weeks?
Possibly. About 30–40% of new retinoid users get an initial "purge" — existing congestion surfacing faster than usual. It lasts 4–6 weeks then settles. To minimise it: start slow (1–2 nights/week), don't combine with other actives initially, and resist the urge to pick or over-cleanse. If breakouts persist past 8 weeks, that's not purging anymore — email me.
How do I "buffer" if my skin is sensitive?
Apply your moisturiser first, then 2 drops of this on top. The moisturiser acts as a buffer, slowing absorption. Once your skin tolerates that, switch to retinal first, then moisturiser. Buffering for the first 2–3 weeks is the gentlest way to introduce retinal to skin that's reactive.
How long until I see results?
Texture improvement: 4 weeks. Firmer-feeling skin: 6–8 weeks. Visible smoothing of fine lines: 12 weeks. This is the slowest-paying category of skincare, but the most durable. The results compound over months and years, not weeks.
Do I really need daily SPF? It's Australian winter.
Yes — every single day. Retinoids increase your skin's UV sensitivity by roughly 30%. Skipping SPF while using retinal is the fastest way to create new pigmentation, accelerate the very ageing you're trying to slow, and waste this bottle. SPF 30+ daily. Even in Melbourne winter.
What if it doesn't work for me?
Retinoids take longer to show. Use it consistently for 60 days (not 30, like the other products). If your skin isn't firmer or smoother after 8 weeks of proper protocol use, email hello@alinabeauty.com.au and tell me. Refund or swap.
How long does one bottle last?
15ml lasts about 4–5 months at 2 drops, 3–4 nights a week. The small size isn't stinginess — retinal degrades faster than other actives once opened, so smaller bottles get used before they oxidise.

Why now
Ships from Sydney in 1–3 days. Not from Korea in 21.
Retinal degrades with heat and time. Stocked in Australia means yours hasn't sat in a customs container for three weeks before reaching you. Fresh formula, fresh date code, full potency.
